Healthy Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

I've not done a food post in a while but most of you will know how much I believe in feeding your skin from the inside as well as the outside.I'm a big fan of smoothies, not the sugar packed, commercially made bought products, but homemade, full of goodness, plant based drinks. We make smoothies nearly everyday and the whole family love them, even the green juices.

Generally we stick to the bulk of the smoothie being vegetables but sometimes it's nice to have a treat and so we turn to this delicious blueberry smoothie that tastes like the best chocolate milkshake ever. It's a real crowd pleaser and a great introduction to smoothies for those who are a bit more sceptical or as a way to get some fruit into fussy eaters. Oh and it's gluten and nut free and depending on your milk choice can be vegan and dairy free too.

This is my version but I must thank the lovely Holly at Yoga Hero Leeds for the initial idea. I call it a recipe but the quantities are variable to your taste. We find this sweet enough but you could add a little maple syrup if you wanted.

For 1 Smoothie;

Half a cup frozen blueberries (fresh are fine but the frozen berries give a slush texture)

1 tbsp dried shredded coconut (not the sweetened kind)

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp linseeds

1 tbsp cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)

1 or 2 cups milk of your choice

Throw the whole lot in your blender or smoothie maker if you have one and blitz. Add enough milk to make the smoothie drinkable through a straw that's half the fun! We use paper straws as they are greener than the plastic ones, I've got my eye on some reusable glass straws too.

Flax seeds are so good for you and great for your skin. They are anti inflammatory  and full of omega 3 and antioxidants. All great for getting the glow. Blueberries are full of vitamin C which can help prevent broken veins.
